Maureen O’Donnell, LPC

Hi, I’m Maureen (she/her).

I’ve been in this field for over 20 years and strongly believe that with a therapeutic relationship grounded in nurturing collaboration — plus a bit of humor and fun when it helps — we can explore the patterns shaped by trauma and toxic parent dynamics. My clients describe me as warm and easy to talk to while still able to hold space for the hard things. I tend to have a dedicated group of clients who trust the process and the support that I offer.

My Experience

I started my mental health career as a music therapist, spending those early years in hospital settings where I saw firsthand how creativity and connection can help people heal. After earning my master’s degree, I moved into outpatient work, eventually spending over eight years with Kennesaw State University’s Counseling and Psychological Services. During that time, I offered individual and group counseling, gave mental health presentations across campus, and supported developing clinicians through supervision. I’ve been lucky to work with an incredibly diverse range of clients navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and the often‑messy process of becoming their own person. Every step of the way, I’ve loved helping people feel understood, supported, and a little less alone.

I have a strong foundation in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, while also utilizing Psychodynamic and Humanistic approaches. I’m also a big fan of Polyvagal Theory, using this to explore how your nervous system is connected with your experiences.

I have a bachelor’s of music in Music Therapy from Florida State University and a master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Georgia State University.

What I Value for Myself

When I’m not at work, I’m usually doing something that helps me slow down and reconnect — going to concerts, watching a good movie, practicing yoga, or getting outside for a hike.

I spend a lot of time with my family, and we share our home with our rescue dog. We are currently catless, but working to change that.

Let’s get started!
